Overview of the different methodologies that can be used for sediment sampling and the different types of mobilization that can be used to obtain sediment samples. (1 PDH)

Building Code of NYS – Special Inspections

Overview of the changes in the Building Code of NYS. Chapter 17, Structural Tests and Special Inspections, and related chapters, outline the provisions that govern the quality, workmanship, and requirements for materials covered. Seminar specifically focuses on soil, masonry, concrete, structural steel fireproofing, and geotechnical engineering. (1 PDH)

Pile Testing

Explanation of what Dynamic Pile Testing (DPT) offers and how it compares with static load test. The presentation specifically covers how and why DPT is performed; dynamic formulas and wave equation, advantages and disadvantages, pile integrity testing, cross-hole analyzer, considerations when specifying pile testing; and what to expect from the test results. (1 PDH)

Construction Vibrations

Overview of vibration basics, ground motion, peak particle velocity, and the significance of frequency. Review of NYSDOT requirements, portable seismograph equipment and key elements of vibration monitoring specifications. (1 PDH)

Subsurface Investigation and Geotechnical Evaluation

Boring log and subsurface investigation methodologies; basic understanding of how data is obtained, soil classifications, engineering properties of soil and bearing capacities. (1 PDH)

Subsurface Investigation Hardships and Challenges

A presentation on overcoming the challenges associated with accessing difficult subsurface investigation locations safely and efficiently.  The presentation will focus on tidal water, deep water, side slopes, spillways, swampy areas, and inside building locations. (1 PDH)

Hot Mix Asphalt – Volumetrics

Explains the differences between volumetric and non-volumetric mixes; discussion on how each type of mix is evaluated; and problems with improper evaluation. (1 PDH)

Asbestos/Lead/Mold

Overview of Asbestos and the Revised Industrial Code Rule 56; Lead – Concerns for the Design Professional; Mold – Standards/Guidelines Control Methods. (1 PDH)

Hazardous Materials Surveys and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) in Caulk

Overview of Hazardous Materials Surveys, what they identify, and why they are important; and a basic introduction to PCB and management of PCB in building materials, and the hazards that may be posed by their presence.       (1 PDH)

Construction Materials Engineering and Testing

Overview of basic construction materials testing of both field and laboratory tests as well as the difference between testing and special inspections in the NYS Building Code. (1 PDH)

Hot Weather Concrete

An overview of the five essentials of quality concrete, the potential problems of placing concrete in hot and cold weather, mitigation procedures, and considerations to take before and after placing concrete. (1 PDH)

Cold Weather Concrete

An overview of the five essentials of quality concrete, the potential problems of placing concrete in hot and cold weather, mitigation procedures, and considerations to take before and after placing concrete. (1 PDH)

Incidental Disturbance Assessments and Site Specific Variances

A presentation on methodologies of incidental disturbances and cleanups of uncontrolled disturbances.  This presentation will also include the site specific variances petition process within New York State.  (1 PDH)

Each of the above presentations is one hour and can be given at your office. They are approved for one Professional Development Hour (PDH) for PE’s in attendance. For architects, we issue a certificate of course completion to be processed with your AIA paperwork for architects to receive a continuing educational unit (CEU).
