National Ladder Safety month is observed every March to promote safe ladder practices at work and home, aiming to reduce ladder-related injuries and fatalities.

In 2023 there were 109 deaths in the U.S. due to improper use of ladders. Here at ATL, we use ladders for many of our projects. Making good decisions when working with ladders can avoid accidents on the jobsite.

Here are some Safety Guidelines from the OSHA Education Center:

  • Choosing the right ladder: Select the appropriate type, material, and duty rating for the task Fiberglass ladders are recommended for electrical work due to their non-conductive properties.
  • Inspecting before use: Check for damaged rungs, loose rails, worn feet, or frayed ropes.
  • Proper setup: Place ladders on stable, level surfaces; avoid using boxes or unstable bases to gain height.
  • Safe climbing: Maintain three points of contact (two hands and a foot, or two feet and hand), keep your body centered, and face the ladder while climbing.
  • Avoiding hazards: Stay clear of overhead power lines and do not use ladders in unsafe conditions.
