ATL Assists Clarkson University with Soil Experiment

Clarkson University Professor Suguang (Sean) Xiao is performing research on soil-structure interaction on pile foundations using a 4.5′ by 4′ by 3′ soil box.  The soil box is located in a climate controlled room that will be adjusted during the experiment to simulate different environmental conditions.  ATL assisted Professor Xiao in determining the in-place dry density and moisture content of the material inside the soil box at various depths utilizing one of our nuclear density meters.  The photos show the soil material in a dry moisture condition during our first visit.  We will be returning to the Clarkson facility to perform additional testing the soil under flooded and frozen conditions.
