ATL requested accreditation for ASTM C 1260: Standard Test Method for Potential Alkali Reactivity of Aggregates. Due to the current COVID-19 health precautions, CCRL performed the inspection through Microsoft teams video conferencing. Utilizing a live video feed CCRL was able to observe ATL performing each step of the ASTM method. Upon completion of the test ATL submitted all the quality system requirements electronically. CCRL has reviewed all the procedures and supplementary information and AASHTO has accredited ATL for ASTM C 1260.

ASTM C 1260 is typically requested to evaluate coarse and fine aggregates for the potential of deleterious expansion due to Alkali Silica Reaction (ASR). It is especially useful to identify aggregates that react slowly or produce expansion late in the reaction.
